The result was that we gradually stopped having to delete PA.
I’ve used it for years since I don’t use pulseaudio because it’s unpredictable and I don’t feel just like doing debug each and every time it fails.
But yeah, we were holding both considerably more capable than most of their contemporaries.
I recall having plenty of issues with dmix in its early days.
Not surprising because the same sorts of driver/library/application bugs that made PA a bit rocky also affected dmix.
I am uncertain how things were “back then”, but ALSA today has both rate conversion and mixing plugins.

Just like so a lot of the rest of the appliance world, the majority of those are powered by some random ARM or MIPS SoC running some flavor of Linux.
Not my project but I’ve been using it for a year on 3 Raspberry Pi and it has been dependable.

I know some individuals that swear by Sonos, and I get it, but I’m by no means doing that.
Apart from the basic cost issue, I’m not comfortable being locked into its ecosystem.

There may be several codec (ie two 2-channel codecs instead of one 4-channel codec) but that’s pretty rare.
However this was long time ago, definitely before me owning any USB or Bluetooth exclusive audio devices.
I do not even remember when “killall pulseaudio” last solved anything And irrespective of that being able to adjust sound levels per-application with PA has been very helpful .
To achieve the main GStreamer pipelines’ flexibility while still satisfying hard realtime requirements, Taymans created an easier multimedia pipeline framework and called it SPA — the Simple Plugin API .

Uber alums’ engineering analytics startup Hatica has raised $3.7 million in a funding round led by Sequoia India and Southeast Asia’s Surge, they said Thursday.
The San Francisco-headquartered startup aims to improve the productivity and well-being of developers by helping them better know how they’re spending their time with detailed engineering analytics.
“There was no objective way to understand what would be a problem,” said Hatica co-founder and CEO Naomi Copra within an interview.
Chopra and his former Uber colleague Haritabh Singh founded Hatica in 2020.
They discovered that developers were contending with scores of distractions such as long-meetings and other interaction requests, a phenomenon that has been a lot more prevalent in the remote and hybrid work settings.
Once it gets the info, Hatica delivers performance metrics that are targeted at helping developers understand their cycle time, and help them with better allocation to improve the quality of their code and curb burnout.
The insights may also help speed-up product deliveries and increase customer value streams.

I think I will try Jasper in the near future, which allows to use a speach-to-text engine called “pocketsphinx”, which works offline.
However, staying offline does mean limiting your devices to do tasks like “turn kitchen lights on” or “I desire to watch TV”, not get information like “what’s the elements for tomorrow”.
So to think through the entire setup – if I desire to stream spotify, for example, I can run snapcast + mopidy on a VM on my proxmox server.

For snapclient, I used a USB DAC at first, but turning it off and then on meant that snapclient lost its connection.
I possibly could not resolve that so I purchased a DAC HAT instead.

And TTS Does interrupt the current playback IF you use TTS on the snapserver instance.
You can bypass it through the use of TTS on all of the other mopidy instances.
I am have an operating Squeezelit/LMS setup that just works at all times, but I am missing TTS.
There’s no seamless way to play TTS to the squeeze clients without interrupting the existing playing track.
